Description: 7.4 miles, 2 hour paddle flat water, first hour maybe some Class 1 rapids if water then slow moving for last hour but deeper water. Put-in is at base of dam then take-out at landing under Hwy 1 bridge. Good parking at put-in and take-out.

Meet at take-out landing: Camden is about 30+ minutes from Columbia. Take I-20 east until Hwy 601 Lugoff exit, follow Hwy 601 into Lugoff and it turns into Hwy 601 and Hwy 1, and head toward Camden. Just before crossing bridge into Camden, take last road on right which is dirt/gravel road and follow to end. We will meet and convey to put-in. I recommended meeting here as put-in is hard to find unless you have been there.

Things to see: Abundant birds and wildlife. High banks and ridges which give appearance of more like paddle in the foothills. Several islands are passed along this route. We may stop on beach of island for water and lunch break so bring lunch or snacks.

Cautions: Sun and heat so take water, hats and sunscreen. Very wide river but narrow paddling channels for first 3 miles. Water likely very low and may require some drags so have appropriate shoes. Prone to afternoon storms so we are starting early.

Recommendations: This is fine paddle for beginners. As there can be many rocks initially, I don't recommend fiberglass or wood boats, but all other types acceptable.
