North Fork Edisto River
We are going for a river trip, probably a challenging one this weekend. The water is low (about 2 feet) according to the gage but it is pouring down rain as I write this (Monday afternoon in Columbia). Maybe the water level will rise? but, we are going to give it the ol' Palmetto Paddler's try. So, if you're in the mood for an adventure, put on your river shoes and bring your toughest boat and join us. About 10 river miles; one of the prettiest sections of this river with few houses and lots of wilderness with tons of twists and turns to negotiate. This is not a trip for inexperienced folks or ones who are not interested in climbing over trees and walking the boats over the sandbars. We are not sure what we will find at this low water level but expect it to be lots of fun.
Bring sun/rain protections, lots of snacks and water; sturdy shoes, your saws and clippers, poison ivy prevention, extra food/water and a flashlight though it is our expectation to be off the river before dark - one never can be sure (part of the adventure!) . We plan to meet at 9 at Baughman's Landing (Shillings Bridge) just northwest from Orangeburg off hwy 178. Turn towards the river on road 74 (I think there is a river access sign here) and travel about 2.3 miles. We will run shuttle after unloading the boats there.
Please email me at kwhitaker@agfirst.com if you can join us or if you have any questions. Include your cell phone number.
Looking forward to the opportunity to collect more experiences for story hour!! Happy Trials, Kate
