Lake Murray/Big Creek, August 16, 2008

Paddlers - Linda Gray, Kate Whitaker, Bill Clark, Geoff Bonham, Jeffery Day, Jonathan Dusenbury, Ed Wrightson, Joe Wrightson, Hattie & Bruce Monson, Hilda & Jon Flumholtz, Carol & Andy Anderson, and Mike Hollis

Trip Length- 9.49 miles,
Time-Approx. 4 hours.

We had a large turn out for the full moon paddle on Saturday August 16th. The temperature was in the 80's and there were zero power boats for the entire trip. Linda got close enough to two beavers to scare one out of his stick and another slapped his tail in front of Bruce. I though that maybe Hattie had gotten hold of him for bring her out in the dark to paddle. We extended our trip to include a section of the Little Saluda River since we made it to Big Creek in good time. My impression of the Little Saluda River section was that it was very, very dark once the sun went down. My thanks to everyone for keeping up the lively conversations and for bring headlamps and flashlights. Despite all of the lights we still managed to grazed a few of the small trees in the water. The point of this trip was to see the full moon over the lake, however the clouds kept the it hidden. Maybe next time. Thanks everyone, it was a wonderful moonless night paddle.

Anyone looking for a place to paddle this is a very nice trip during the day time also. There are very few power boats in this area and you stand a good chance of seeing deer, beavers and plenty of bird life. It takes less than an hour to get to Little River Landing from Irmo.
